Built from 1758 to 1770, Palais Rechberg, previously known as the Krone, is the most significant example of Rococo architecture in the canton of Zürich. Its sumptuous interiors bear witness to the high demands of its first owners, Mr and Mrs Werdmüller-Oeri. The mansion’s history is closely linked to that of this influential Zürich family and successive owners. As soon as the house was completed, its owners received local and foreign dignitaries, such as the Generals of the Coalition Wars, Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria and Tsar Alexander I of Russia.
