Knowledge, Science, and Local Tradition

This Festschrift for Fritz Schulze brings together contributions from leading scholars in Southeast Asian and Islamic Studies from Indonesia and Germany. Kamran Arjomand, Claudia Derichs, Imen Gallala-Arndt, Noorhaidi Hasan, Lydia Kieven, Judith Koschorke, Bernd Nothofer, Martin Ramstedt, Irene Schneider, Mochamad Sodik, Achmad Uzair, Holger Warnk, Mohsen Zakeri, and Patrick Ziegenhain deal in their articles with topics such as the history of sciences and local knowledge in Iran and Southeast Asia, legal discourses on gender and the legal status of Muslim women in Tunisia, Palestine and Indonesia as well as cultural and language studies on Indonesia (in particular Java) and Malaysia. They allow comparative perspectives on politics, (Islamic) law, gender and history of sciences and capture well Fritz Schulze’s academic interests.
