Engineering the morphology and metabolism of Ustilago to expand the process window for itaconic acid production

Itaconic acid is of growing biotechnological significance due to its use for the production of bio-based polymers, chemicals, and novel fuels. By an integrated approach of metabolic and morphological engineering in Ustilaginaceae, coupled with process development, this thesis contributes to the future expansion of the fields of application of itaconic acid as an important bio-based building block.
