Aktuelle Forschungen zu Migration, Interaktion und Kommunikation im ur- und frühgeschichtlichen Norddeutschland
Current research on migration, interaction and communication in prehistoric and protohistoric northern Germany
Die norddeutschen Küstengewässer und Flussläufe spielten in allen Zeiten der Menschheitsgeschichte eine herausragende Rolle für Warenaustausch und Kommunikation. Wie uns vor allem die mittelalterlichen Quellen berichten, war es hier möglich, mithilfe von Booten und Schiffen enorme Lasten zeitsparend über große Entfernungen zu transportieren und damit auch neue Siedlungsgebiete zu erschließen. Vor diesem Hintergrund sind die im vorliegenden Band enthaltenen neun Studien zu betrachten, die sich mit unterschiedlichen Fragestellungen zu Migration, Interaktion und Kommunikation in den norddeutschen Küstenräumen beschäftigen. Schwerpunkte bilden dabei aktuelle interdisziplinäre Forschungen an Siedlungsplätzen, Bootslandeplätzen und Handelsplätzen des 1. Jahrtausends n. Chr. sowie deren gesellschaftlichen Organisationsformen.
Throughout human history, the northern German coastal waters and rivers have played a vital role in communication and the exchange of goods. Medieval written sources in particular report that in this area, it was possible to transport enormous cargos over large distances in a relatively short time, using both ships and boats. In this way, new areas for settlement were also opened up. With this background in mind, the nine studies collected in this volume address various questions regarding migration, interaction and communication across the northern German coastal areas. The volume focuses in particular on current interdisciplinary projects at settlements, landing sites and trading places of the 1st millennium A. D. and on their forms of social organisation.
