Godfather-in-law.

The Real Documentation

von Rakhat Aliyev

Kurzbeschreibung

Rakhat Aliyev holds doctorates in medicine and economics and is an influential politician and successful entrepreneur. He has served as Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Austria as well as Permanent Representative to the UN, OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna. He was formerly his country’s First Deputy Foreign Minister.
In May 2007 President Nazarbayev arbitrarily changed the Kazakh Constitution in his own interest, giving himself the right to remain president for life. Then he began taking repressive steps against his opponents, and it was at that time that Rakhat Aliyev decided to end his game with the regime and take a desperate leap to freedom. The author has meanwhile been declared “Enemy of the state No. 1” in his home country.
Kazakhstan’s irremovable president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, is following in the footsteps of Genghis Khan, the Russian tsars and the Bolsheviks. He holds the rich oil and gas resources of his country in an iron grip. His opponents are either dead or languishing in prison. Behind the locked gates of Ak-Orda presidential palace, which he built in the lifeless steppes, the dictator is increasingly divorced from the reality of the lives led by the Kazakh people. His regime, based entirely on personal power, would have been swept away long ago if Western and Eastern politicians were more concerned about their bilateral relations and if the international community paid closer attention to the countries of Central Asia. This book is about a man who has stolen billions of dollars from his people and enslaved them.
