South Korea is one of the world’s fastest growing economies. Especially in communications technology, the automotive industry, and shipbuilding, but also in some heavy industries like steelmaking, South Korean companies are global leaders. In our next issue, we will be looking at the role played by design in this rapid development. We will also present promising South Korean up-and-coming designers and look at the impact of data overload and constant use of mobile devices on a society, which, for all its technological sophistication, is still strongly shaped by traditional structures. There will also be features on the history of sustainability in design, the role of design galleries, current developments in the field of textiles, and the upcoming Euroshop fair in Düsseldorf. In the second part of our anniversary series, we will inquire into the current state of the functionalism debate.
