Innovative Transport on the Rhine-Alpine Corridor
An Economic Geographical Simulation and Transport Analysis of Locations, Infrastructures, and Potentials for a Smart Rail Freight Line System
von Jana Christine KoppeShifting traffic from road to rail is an objective of the transition to green and smart transport. However, infrastructural and technical barriers must be overcome, particularly in cross-border rail freight transport, in order to increase the attractiveness of rail. Based on the interdisciplinary research project ERFLS ‚European Rail Freight Line System‘, the author investigates the regional implementation of a smart line train system in the highestgrowing EU transport corridor Rotterdam-Genoa. The transport and economic geographical analysis includes thematic maps and a structural diagram of the geography of the corridor, six terminal case studies and the application-oriented simulation of line variants.
