The volume is a good starting point into the multiple dimensions of the rich material, beyond typological study and dating. In-depth discussion of New Kingdom funerary culture in general or in specific aspects of social class, gender or ethnicity would doubtlessly have added more insights into the types of objects found and into those that seem to be missing. Nevertheless, in sum, this richly
illustrated volume with its full descriptions of the objects from KV 36, the vital group of the pottery aside, provides a solid foundation for all such future research on the burial of Maiherperi.“

Das Grab KV 36 und die Bestattung des Maiherperi im Tal der Könige
von Konstantin C. LakomyZu den umfangreichen Beständen des Ägyptischen Nationalmuseums in Kairo zählt seit dem Frühjahr 1899 auch die Grabausstattung des Wedelträgers Maiherperi aus seinem Grab (KV 36) im Tal der Könige, die in der vorliegenden Studie erstmals vollumfänglich präsentiert und eingehend analysiert wird. Als eine der ältesten ‚nichtköniglichen‘ Bestattungen im Tal der Könige kann durch das fast unversehrte, mehr als 200 Objekte umfassende Grabinventar des Maiherperi der Nachweis erbracht werden, dass bereits zu Beginn des Neuen Reiches (1550–1075 v. Chr.) Angehörige der ägyptischen Elite im Tal der Könige bestattet wurden, die nicht der thutmosidischen Königsfamilie angehörten. Im Verlauf der vergangenen 115 Jahre wurde das Grabensemble des Maiherperi meist ohne Beachtung des archäologischen Kontextes und ohne eine genaue Betrachtung der Objekte in den wissenschaftlichen Diskurs zur Belegungsgeschichte des Tals der Könige und Geschichte der XVIII. Dynastie einbezogen und verschieden datiert. Durch die Einbindung des archäologischen Kontextes und detaillierte Objektanalysen kommt die vorliegende Studie nach einer kritischen Bewertung der bisherigen Datierungen und Deutungen zu einer umfassenden Neubewertung des beispiellosen Ensembles aus KV 36.
