In the wealth of writing on modern architecture there has been insufficient emphasis on how effectively it is capable of description by reference to landscape art. The great principles of geometry and harmonic proportion, fundamental to European architecture since its inception, are here the starting points to the analysis of a genre that superficially appears a radical departure from, even rejection of, the earlier tradition.
