Macht Antike Politik?

Even after the decline of ancient political systems, antiquity maintained its influence on public thought and action: to this day, ancient doctrines and models serve as reference points for a host of different discourses. Why do political actors make deliberate use of antiquity and what meanings emerge from this practice? Does antiquity truly shape politics? Or is the converse true: has politics shaped antiquity?
