Bonn, Jakarta und der Kalte Krieg

The Cold War and German partition had global implications: among other things, they strongly shaped relations between West Germany and Indonesia during the 1950s and 60s. The years of crisis under President Sukarno placed great demands on West German foreign policy. The mass killings of 1965–66 and General Suharto’s “new order” created a new set of circumstances, leading Bonn to react according to the logic of the Cold War.
