Das Werk enthält eine Sammlung ausgewählter Sprichwörter der Dagara-Gesellschaft in Westafrika, die großenteils obsolet und kaum bekannt sind. Manche sind nur noch selten in Gebrauch, andere erfreuen sich noch heute großer Beliebtheit. Wieder andere stellen Neuschöpfungen dar. (Der Autor zieht auch Parallelen zu Sprichwörtern des Abendlands.)
