Computing in Engineering

EG-ICE Conference 2009

herausgegeben von Wolfgang Huhnt
Computing in engineering is a growing field which traditionally has been limited to covering analysis tasks such as the determination of physical behavior of structures. Today, computing includes geometric modeling and simulation of technical systems, design support, diagnostic applications such as system identification, control of complex systems and data fusion. It is expanding its focus onto the field of construction and infrastructure management. Research and development in topics of computing in engineering require a strong theoretical basis that often originates from concepts developed in basic fields such as mathematics. Applications often benefit from technical advances in modern information and communication hardware. For example, sensor technologies and data interpretation are now important topics for researchers in computing in engineering.
The European Group for Intelligent Computing in Engineering Conferences are open for a complete range of topics in the field of computing in engineering. This is reflected by the contributions to the actual event. This volume contains papers that were presented at the 16 th Conference of the European Group for Intelligent Computing in Engineering in Berlin. Over three days, 45 participants from around the world listened to 32 paper presentations in a single session format.
The conference proceedings have been published as the first volume in a book series of the Department of Civil Engineering at Technische Universität Berlin. During the past five years, a new generation of civil engineering professors was appointed at Technische Universität Berlin. The new team at our department decided to take this change of generations as an opportunity to start a series of books presenting research and development in civil engineering at Technische Universität Berlin. It is a pleasure to start this series with the proceedings of the 16 th Conference of the European Group for Intelligent Computing in Engineering.
