A Mixed-Dimensional Multi-Physics Model of a Novel Cardiac Assist Device Coupled to Patient-Specific Cardiovascular Systems
von Robert WohlfarthThis work presents a computational model of a novel pneumatic biventricular assist device for heart failure treatment. To this end, a 0-dimensional lumped-parameter drive unit model and a 3-dimensional implant model are coupled, in which fluid and structural mechanics as well as thermal and electrical processes are considered. The model is validated against experimental data and analyzed in-silico. Furthermore, it is coupled to mixed-dimensional, patient-specific cardiovascular models and subsequently applied to clinically relevant cases.
