An Evolved EDGE System-on-Chip for the Cellular Internet of Things
von Harald Kröll, herausgegeben von Qiuting Huang, Mathieu Luisier, Andreas Schenk und Bernd WitzigmannIn this thesis a system-on-chip (SoC) for the cellular internet of things (IoT) is designed. The SoC is based on the Evolved EDGE standard, which allows data rates up to 592 kbps over a single 200 kHz GSM carrier. Evolved EDGE is known for requiring complex interference cancellation algorithms in the digital baseband, which is unfeasible for small IoT devices with years of battery life. In this work the entire digital baseband signal processing is implemented in a dedicated VLSI architecture by using agile algorithm-driven hardware design. The resulting SoC achieves Evolved EDGE data rates while showing very low power consumption and three times smaller circuit area than prior art.
