Tarok leben hauptsächlich in den Langtang-North, Langtang-South, Wase, Mikang und Kanke Verwaltungsbezirken (Local Government Areas – LGAs) des Bundesstaates Plateau State in Zentralnigeria. Die Hauptstadt von Langtang liegt 180 km südöstlich von Jos, der Landeshauptstadt. Eine Vielzahl von Tarok sind auch noch in Shendam, Mikang, Qua’an-Pan, Kanam, Kanke und Pankshin LGAs und Nasarawa und Taraba niedergelassen. Tarok nennen sich selbst o’Tárók, ihre Sprache iTárók und ihre Heimat ìTàrok. Der Fokus dieses Buchs liegt auf der Beschreibung der Sprache der Tarok.
