This thesis describes a conceptual virtual prototype reference model (VPT reference model). This VPT reference model acts as a neutral interface between development partners in distributed functional development environments during all phases of product development. Mappings allow internal and external partners to exchange process information and (simulation) data irrespective of the particular systems or methods used by the individual development partners.
