Wildegg Castle took its present multifaceted form over many centuries, from the original fortress built by followers of the Habsburgs to the expansions by the knights of Hallwyll and the house of Effinger – the latter which owned the castle for over 400 years. Recent investigations have enriched our knowledge of the history of the building. Features of the many phases of construction, as changes were made to the building and its interiors, have been conserved and remain visible.
Today, Wildegg is not only an intriguing castle and richly furnished residence museum. It still includes an extensive domain, which with gardens, vineyard, forest, farm, and further properties sustained the lords of the castle.
