William Forsythe has brought about a shift of paradigms in contemporary dance. The vocabulary of his choreographies redefines body, space, time, and movement. The ZKM/Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe cooperated with William Forsythe in 1994 to produce a „digital dance school“ in the form of an interactive computer installation. It consists of some sixty video chapters in which Forsythe demonstrates and comments on the essential principles of his motional language. Examples, danced especially for the CD-ROM by members of the Frankfurt Ballet, can be called up as required. Also included is a solo performance by William Forsythe filmed in 1996 by Thomas Lovell Balogh, offering a rare chance to experience the choreographer as a dancer.
