Joan Fontcuberta Seit über vier Jahrzehnten setzt sich Joan Fontcuberta sowohl künstlerisch als auch theoretisch mit Fotografie auseinander. Sein Fokus richtet sich auf Konflikte zwischen Natur, Technologie, Fotografie und Wahrheit. Seine Arbeiten wurden in Einzelausstellungen unter anderem im MoMa New York (1988), Art Institute of Chicago (1990), IVAM Valencia (1992), Maison Européenne de la Photographie Paris (2014), Science Museum London (2014) und im Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt am Main (2015) gezeigt. Sie sind unter anderem in den Sammlungen des Metropolitan Museum of Arts New York, MoMa San Francisco, Museum of Fine Art Houston, Center for Creative Photography Tucson, George Eastman House Rochester, National Gallery of Art Ottawa, Museums Folkwang Essen, Centre Georges Pompidou Paris und Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam vertreten.

Joan Fontcuberta (Barcelona, 1955) is an artist, curator, essayist, and lecturer. He is considered one of Europe’s most important contemporary photographers and one of the most respected and highly regarded voices in the international scene. He has been recognized with the David Octavius Hill medal, awarded by Germany’s Fotografisches Akademie GDL (1988), was made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture (1994), and has been the recipient of Spain’s National Photography Prize (1998) and National Essay Prize (2011), as well as the Hasselblad Award (2013), one of the most prestigious prizes worldwide in the field of photography.
