Person Vito Flaker

Dr. Vito Flaker (4.6.1955) is a professor and the dean of the Faculty for Social Work at the University of Ljubljana. Starting with the interest in the work of W. Reich, humanistic psychotherapy and groupwork, he was from 1977 involved in various community action projects and action research dealing with the democratisation of the leisure organisation, inclusion of the children with different kinds of distress into the community etc. From 1985 he was an important actor in the development of community mental health in Slovenia and initiatior of various innovation in this area. He researched voluntary work, social inclusion, and deinstitutionalisation, mapping of the heroin use and harm reduction in Slovenia and planning the community care. He wrote four books Youth voluntary actions between the crisis and perspective (MDA med krizo in perspektivo 1985, with Z. Pavloviæ), Disclosure of Madness: Rise and Fall of the Total Institution (Odpiranje norosti: vzpon in padec totalnih ustanov (1998) and Living with Heroin Vol. 1: Social Construction of a Drug User in Slovenia and Vol. 2: Toward harm reduction (ÂŽiveti s heroinom 1. del: Družbena konstrukcija uživalca v Sloveniji in 2. del: K zmanjşevanju şkode)
