Jimmy Gockel
JIMMY GOCKEL
Jimmy Gockel is a contemporary pop artist from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He is a Graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and is a member of the SEMO Arts Council.
Jimmy took up art as a hobby in 2015 after having gone on a cruise. While touring the ship he visited the art gallery and came across a painting by artist Alfred Gockel. Jimmy says he thought to himself, „well if one Gockel can become a famous artist, maybe another one can.“
Jimmy chose to attend the Cape Career & Technology Center to improve his skills and credits his art teacher, Travis Clayton, for his success.
Inspired by Andy Warhol and Peter Max, Jimmy has always been drawn to the 1960s psychede- lic era of pop art with all it‘s bold and bright colors, which he often uses in his paintings.
In 2017 Jimmy created Gock Art and just two months later, at the age of 60, was published in SouthWest Art Magazine and AcrylicWorks 4, Northlight Books. He has since had his artwork on display in over 50 national and international exhibitions to include, New York, Miami, London and Zurich, Switzerland.
