The author proceeds on the assumption that individuals and groups live in their private worlds which are theory-dependent, and that changes in the theory also entail changes in these worlds. The consequence is however also that theoretical changes should be suited to solving and creating practical problems. By using certain authors (Ockham, Descartes, Spinoza, Locke) as examples, the author illustrates how theoretical changes do in fact solve certain problems but at the same time create new ones.
